Not a Lot of Recent Activity Here…???

That’s true. No major tandem outings for us since the Alabama Tandem Weekend. In fact, I didn’t even get a chance to swing a leg over a bicycle since then up and until yesterday.  Boy-o-boy, going from a triplet to a single bike will get your attention in a hurry.  I was clearly missing about 6′ of bicycle and 240lbs of leg-pumping power as I tried to remember how to steer a bicycle that had a very short wheelbase and perhaps 65lbs of weight on the front wheel (60/40 split, don’t you know).  Anyway, it felt good to get out and we’ll hopefully be headed out on the tandem today if Debbie’s feeling up to it. She’s been struggling with flu-like symptoms all week, most likely the spring crud that seems to go around here in Georgia.

Now, just because I wasn’t writing about a cycling adventure on this blog doesn’t mean we’ve been sitting around watching the pollen pile up on everything.  Instead, the past two weekends had motorcycle-riding as their centerpiece.

There are a couple of subscribers to this blog who are also subscribers to my “other” blog, Riding Two-Up who have probably seen the write-ups. Regular readers will recall that a while back I created the second blog as a way of keeping this blog more focused on tandem cycling, true to its central theme.  So, most of my ramblings related to my passion for the larger two-wheeled bikes as well as anecdotes related to other “off the bike” activities end up being documented on Riding Two-Up.  So, as for those past two weekends that weren’t spent tandem cycling, here are the extracts from the RSS Feeds:

What a Weekend… I’m Beat (But in a Good Way), Apr 2

This is the first part of a two-part report on our weekend.  You can find the second part HERE. FRIDAY was an off-day that began with spreading 70 bales of pine straw around the yard then crawling around on my hands & knees rolling the edges.  This was in addition to the 30 square yards […]  Read more…

This is the second part of a two-part report on our weekend. You can find the first part HERE. SUNDAY saw us both up early again as we worked to get some laundry and other chores taken care of before heading off for a day-long motorcycle ride with Deb & David. Our plans weren’t all […]  Read more…

This was supposed to be a weekend trip for Mark, David and the two Debbies, but “something came up” and it turned into a Guys Trip and a Girls Weekend at Home. The Guys Trip took David and me to Panama City Beach (PCB) on Friday where the plan was to check out some local […]  Read more…

Like I said, hopefully we’ll get out on the tandem this morning. We need to go by Horsetown later today to see our friend and Debbie’s fashion consultant Misty, as something Debbie ordered has come in that will complete one of her outfits. Tonight will see us hosting our friends David & Deb for some of my hot wings before we head over to the Dixie Tavern to watch one of our favorite local bands — Pretty Twisted — play their first gig at the Tavern.  And then tomorrow will likely have us doing a log ride on the big bikes, as we all work to build up seat time before heading back to Florida on May 2nd for 5 days of riding and relaxing during Bike Week at Panama City Beach.

I’ve got a few other tandem items to post about in queue and I’ll get those out by Sunday night. No major tandem events for us until the April PEACHES ride on the 28th where we’ll also celebrate Debbie’s birthday from earlier in the week by riding at least her age in kilometers, and then there’s a bit of a drought until the Georgia Tandem Rally in May which should yield some pretty good stories. At present, we’re tentatively scheduled to ride another triplet for the 3-day event: woohoo!  Shortly after that will be the Tennessee Tandem Rally in June and then there’s a big gap until the Southern Tandem Rally in October.  We’re still looking at our summer rally plans, as the Northwest Tandem Rally has fallen out of the schedule for a variety of reasons.

Well, enough for now. Time to do some yard work before Debbie gets back from the grocery store.

About TG

I've been around a bit and done a few things, have a couple kids and a few grandkids. I tend to be curmudgeonly, matter-of-fact and not predisposed to self-serving chit-chat. Thankfully, my wife's as nice as can be otherwise we'd have no friends. My interests are somewhat eclectic, but whose aren't?

Fun to catch up on whatever you’re doing. Only Sharky’s we know is in the Venice, FL area… We will see you at the GTR and already signed up for the STR…long distances from Indiana, but looks like a good time at each. Meanwhile there’s the Indiana Tandem Rally, the Midwest Tandem Rally, and a six day tandem tour of Quebec. Stoker and Captain D
