The photo at right was snapped around 10:30pm and much to my amazement the snow that’s been falling for 30 minutes has been sticking right from the git-go, which is unusual. It’s a very icy snow and the temperatures have quickly dropped from the mid-30’s to the upper 20’s. Just at a guess, we’re probably getting about 2″ per hour of snowfall and the question is, how long will it fall at this pace? Oh, and if having this much snow isn’t bizarre enough, there’s also been some thunder and lightning along with the snow, aka thundersnow.
It’s beautiful to look at, but it sure does screw things up here in the South. Just the threat of snow and ice caused our government offices and functions to shut-down on Monday and the guidance to the general public is to stay off the roads until Tuesday at the earliest. Debbie’s place of business has advised all of their employees that they will be closed tomorrow. However, my employer maintains a policy that our facility is always open so if we find we can’t get to work we’re left with only one option: take a vacation day. Well, that’s a bit of a misnomer as most of the folks who work in middle and upper management are tethered by electronic leashes such that we’ve all come to be “on the job” 24/7, so we’ll likely be doing a lot of conference calls and Email throughout the day tomorrow. In fact, I should probably go and check my Blackberry to see if I need to check my laptop… (sigh).
Well, we’ll see what daylight brings as this snowfall is purportedly going to be with us for several hours.
